My name is Hope Shighadi Mwazuna. I pursued bachelor of commerce at the Technical University of Mombasa. As a normal child born in a Christian home, it was expected that I accompany my parents to Church. It was in this habit that one day in 2006 I was convicted to surrender my life to Jesus Christ and that marked the beginning of my journey in salvation.
One of the best decisions I made when I joined the University in 2016 was to join the Christian Union. I extensively grew through the mentorship and discipleship offered by the Christian Union in partnership with FOCUS-Kenya. The Bible study guides provided by FOCUS helped us engage with scriptures in a deeper and very profound way hence growing in our knowledge of God not to mention the leadership training sessions and the conferences organized by FOCUS. The STEM Staff who served in my CU were always available and ready to walk with us, mentor, counsel, and guide us and the STEM house became for us a home away from home, a place we could have fellowship and ‘swallowship ‘all-together.
When I received a call to join STEM, I was one hand excited about it but on the other hand, felt an overwhelming sense of insufficiency. My family had expectations of me and pursuing ‘full time’ ministry after the campus was not one of them. I also had hopes dreams and plans for myself and after much prayer, I was encouraged to know my life is in God’s hands and I, therefore, needed to align my hopes and dreams according to His will. I was therefore convicted that it was the right thing for me to serve Him among students with Focus – Kenya. God has continually confirmed and affirmed this call and today more than ever I am reminded of Ecclesiastes 9:11, I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all. I am open to what God has in store for me and it’s my prayer that He’ll use me for His glory.
As I join STEM, I see this as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. An opportunity to learn and to unlearn, an opportunity to be sharpened, shaped and pruned. I pray for the students I’ll be working with that the Lord may open up and prepare their hearts to receive me and to receive the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am walking in the assurance that where God gives a vision, provision is assured. I thank God for those that have committed to partner with me and I pray that God may bless them to continually be a blessing. I continue to trust God for more ministry partners to walk with me and support my ministry to the students financially and in prayer. I have faith that the Lord will surely provide the resources for this ministry to go forth.
