I am Joy Kangai, a former student of Egerton University main campus, where I pursued Gender and Development studies. I got born again while in Form One during a mission by an evangelistic team from University of Nairobi, hosted by our local church. This happened after I realized that all along I had been assuming that I was born again just because my parents were believers. I was convicted deep within me that I needed to make a personal choice and not to cling onto my parents’ faith. I surrendered my life to Christ and have found deep satisfaction since.
My relationship with God got even better after joining the Christian Union in August 2016 on my first day in campus during the First Years registration week. It was exciting to be part of the CU, we got inducted to ministries and evangelistic teams. I was appointed to serve as a vice secretary of the CU in my second year of school, and in my third year as the Bible Study coordinator. These leadership opportunities have sharpened my interpersonal skills among others but also brought me closer to FOCUS staff and Associates who have mentored me and thus influenced my spiritual life in many ways. My perspective about the Word of God has been changed for I have a better understanding of it.BEST-P and other discipleship programs have contributed to that growth.
When asked to consider STEM, I had mixed feelings because as much as I was happy to be considered, I was rather intimidated by the call. One of the things that encouraged me to join was the affirmation of God’s call by my parents. But with the uncertainty that came with COVID-19,I became confused and doubted whether this was the best thing to do. God, in His great wisdom, granted me great confidence in the journey ahead and gave me rest from my anxieties.
As I embark on this course, I desire to have others benefit from what I have learnt from FOCUS as I did. I aspire for God to use me to impact the lives of students in ways He alone can. I, therefore, anticipate to be equipped to reach out and influence the society, grow in spiritual disciplines and other areas of life.
My prayer for the students is that their hearts and minds will be open to be shaped and directed by the Word of God in all their endeavors. May God also richly bless everyone that will walk with me in this journey in prayers and finances. I thus request that you may kindly consider walking with me as ai serve the Lord.
