My name is Mercy Naeku. I pursued a degree course in Education (Arts) at South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU). I received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in the year 2009/04/16 during a youth camp. This was after my mother lost her job and life was unbearable. Before that, I used to say that I am born again but I never meant what I said. Every time I would go to church, I received Christ whenever the preacher called for an altar-call but on 16th April 2009, I decided to be firm on my commitment to follow Christ. I desired to be more intimate with Jesus than at any other time in my life.
When I joined the University, I immediately joined the Christian Union in the first week on campus through a friend who took me to one of the evening fellowships. Since then, I became a vibrant and committed member of the CU. I served in the Christian Union as a bible study sub-committee treasurer and also served in the Executive committee as the Organizing secretary. I have also been an active member of the SEKU Christian Union choir and missions department. I knew FOCUS in my first year when I attended Anza-FYT (Fist Years discipleship Program) program and continued to benefit greatly from other discipleship programs they helped facilitate in the CU such as BEST-P (Bible Expository Self Training Program) classes and Vuka-Fyt (Finalists Transition discipleship program) as well the national conferences. My walk with God, leadership skills, and social life has been greatly enhanced by these programs.
I have a heart for youth ministry and I believe that in the youth lies a great potential to impact the society and thus they are supposed to be shaped and mentored in God’s way. I am glad that STEM will provide the opportunity to serve God among students in institutions of higher learning to capture their affections for Christ. I, therefore, aspire to reach and mentor and offer guidance in spiritual, social, and academic areas of their lives as the Lord directs me. I also look forward to developing a reading culture, better my leadership skills, conflict resolution skills and grow even more in my walk with God as I serve the Lord in STEM.
I pray that the Lord will continually raise brothers and sisters in the Lord to support my ministry through prayers and finances. I will be raising my ministry operational costs amounting to a monthly target of Kshs. 22,000 and I humbly invite you to consider being part of consideration on this great calling, to see students in institutions of higher learning reached with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and equipped for effective Christian living for the transformation of our society.
